ALL ABOUT
BARTLETT
NEW HAMPSHIRE
This information seems to be good enough that I've noticed a couple of other establishments have copied parts of it word for word and used it as if it were their own creation.  For those who would do such a thing, the decent thing to do would be to acknowledge where it came from, or at least change it enough so that I can't recognize it.

Bartlett, New Hampshire is located in a  mountain valley in the Central White Mountains approximately 3 hours North of Boston.  It is comprised of three major sections: Intervale, which is at the east end of the Valley and abuts North Conway.  Glen is centered at the Junction of Route 16 and 302 and has the only stop-light in town.  Bartlett Village is at the Westerly end of the Valley and abuts Harts Location.

The major rivers flowing through Bartlett are the Saco, which originates in Crawford Notch and flows to the aptly named Saco, Maine, where it empties into the Atlantic Ocean.  Tributaries of the Saco River in Bartlett include the Ellis River and the Rocky Branch River.

The Population of Bartlett is about 2500, which compares to about 1000 people in 1970.  Government is by a board of three Town Selectmen (Gene Chandler; Doug Garland & David Shedd) who manage a town budget of approximately 1.2 million dollars per year. The Selectman hold weekly meetings every Friday morning, open to anyone who cares to attend.  The School budget of just over 4 million dollars per year is managed by a five member school board. There are about 350 students in grades Pre-School to 8 and a staff of about 35 people.  The town's 90 High School students are transported to Kennett High School in Conway. All town funds are appropriated by an open Town Meeting type format.

Bartlett offers a modern Fire Department with a full time paid chief.    The Police Department operates with a chief,  who is appointed by the Selectmen, and several full time officers who are usually a prominent feature on the local roads.  The town provides ambulance services and the closest hospital is in North Conway.

Bartlett has a comprehensive Zoning Ordinance administered by a seven member Planning Board.  It's advisable not to do much of anything on your property until you check with them.  There are also regulations covering everything from leashing your dog to drinking in public to where not to park your car.   The rules can be found at the Selectmen's Office.

The Bartlett Public library offers a good selection of materials and is located at the Bartlett School. In 2001 the total circulation was 16,726.  The library offers an adult computer corner with internet access and a scanner. It is open whenever the school is open.  It is also open on Monday and Wednesday nights from m7 to 9 pm and Saturday from 11 am to 3 pm.

Tourism is the primary source of employment.  The two largest employers in Bartlett are Mt. Attitash Ski Area and Storyland.  Bartlett is home to hundreds of vacation homes and condominiums and boasts an assessed valuation of approximately 420 million dollars.

TOWN OFFICES:  Are located at the Town Hall on Town Hall Road in Intervale.  The Town Clerk/Tax Collector; The Office of the Selectmen and the Police Department are located here.  The following information is from the 1999 Town report and is assumed to be correct.

TOWN CLERKS OFFICE Services Vehicle registrations, birth, death and marriage certificates, voter registration and payment of tax bills.  Leslie Mallet is the Town Clerk and the Hours are Monday Tuesday Wednesday and Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Also open Saturday Morning from 8-11 a.m.  Office is closed Thursday and Sunday.  The phone number is 603 356 2300.  Read the Town Clerks Report HERE

BARTLETT-JACKSON TRANSFER STATION, where you get rid of your garbage, is on Rte 16 on the Jackson/Bartlett Town Line.  It is open Friday thru Tuesday from 12 Noon to 6 p.m.  It is Closed on Wednesday and Thursday and Christmas Day.  Be prepared to show your dump sticker (which you already obtained from the Selectmen's office).  Recycling is mandatory, so it's a good idea to separate your trash before you get there.  Mattresses and most other large furniture and appliances require a fee that is charged at the time of dumping.

POST OFFICES:  Bartlett has three of em!  The newest one (by "newest" I mean most recently constructed, not longest lived) is in Intervale (03845) opposite the Scenic Vista on Intervale Crossroad.  The Glen Office (03818) is on Route 302 just West of the Stoplight at the Route 16/302 Junction.  It's inside the same building with Patch's Market and Mobil Station.  The Bartlett Village Office (03812) is on Route 302 just west of the Bear Notch Road intersection.  All three offices have full service windows.
